Formed 9.44 in Cuxhaven (apparently only a Battalion HQ). Subordinated to Seekdt. Elbe-Weser.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 115

Formed 8.26.39 in Pillau with 7 companies. In January 1940 gave up its Stab, and the 1. and 4. companies. These were reformed in Summer 1940, together with new 11. – 12. companies. Later in 1940 4. – 7. companies were disbanded. The 11. battery was transferred to Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung603 in 1942. The battalion now had the following batteries: 1. – 3., 12.and 14. – 16. In 9.10.42 redesignated 5.Ersatz-Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung in Pillau. Subordinated toKüstenbefehlshaber östliche Ostsee.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 116

Formed 8.26.39 on Borkum with 2 companies (later 5 companies). In 1945 had 7 batteries and Insel kompanie Borkum. Subordinated to KüstenbefehlshaberOstfriesland, later Deutsche Bucht, and from 11.44 under Seekdt. Ostfriesland.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 117

Formed 8.26.39 in Memel. 8.41 to Libau with 3 companies. In late 1941 redesignated 7. Ersatz-Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung, while the 1. company was transferred to Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 513. Subordinated to Küstenbefehlshaberöstliche Ostsee, and from 8.41 Seekdt. O/Libau.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 118

Formed 4.41 in Hansted (Denmark) from the companies Hanstholm, Thyborönand Agger (all ex- Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 509), with 4 companies:

  • 1./MAA 118 (Hanstholm I) with 170mm guns
  • 2./MAA 118 (Hanstholm II) with four 380mm guns (ex-danish)
  • 3./MAA 118 (Agger) with 120mm guns
  • 4./MAA 118 with Flak, but from 7.42 was Stabsbatterie)

Subordinated to Marinebefehlahaber Dänemark, and from 11.44 Marine-Artillerie-Regiment40.

Formed 2.40 on Hela with 4 companies. In late 1942 disbanded, 1. and 4. companies went to Marine-Flak-Abteilung 219 and the 2. company to Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung244. Subordinated to Küstenbefehlshaber östliche Ostsee.

Formed 8.26.39 in Swinemünde from the Lehrgruppe Küstenartillerie. Disbanded 6.41. Subordinated to Küstenbefehlshaber Pommern.

Formed 10.44 in Friedrichstadt with 8 batteries. Subordinated to Seekdt. Nordfriesland.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 126

Formed 8.26.39 on Norderney with 2 companies. Disbanded 7.40.

Reformed 11.44 in Leer/Ostfriesland with 7 batteries.

Subordinated to Küstenbefehlshaber Ostfriesland (8.39 – 7.40) and Seekdt. Ostfriesland (11.44 – 5.45).

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 132

Formed 8.26.39 on Wangerooge. Disbanded 9.30.43. Subordinated to Küstenbefehlshaber Ostfriesland, later Deutsche Bucht.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 134

Formed 8.26.39 on Sylt with 2 companies. 1940/41 the 1. company was transferred to Sonderkommando der 10. Schiffs-Stamm-Abteilung (later Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung513). Disbanded 2.42.

Reformed 9.44 on Sylt with 7 batteries.

Subordinated to Subordinated to Küstenbefehlshaber Nordfriesland, later Deutsche Bucht, and from 11.44 Seekdt. Nordfriesland.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 141

Formed 8.26.39 in Kiel(?) with only 1. company. In autumn 1939 the 1st company became 5./Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 121 (Erhard Schmidt), and was replaced by the Eisenbahn-Batterie Gneisenau/Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung141 (150 mm railway guns). An Abteilungsstab was formed in 1940. In summer 1940, the Batterie Gneisenau became independent, and was replaced by a BatterieStand Juist/Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 141. This would later become 5./Marine-Flak-Abteilung226.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 144

Planned formation in 1945 in Wesermünde was canceled.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 201

Formed 5.40 in Den Helder with 5 companies. In June 1940 transferred to Wijk am See. 1941 increased to 8 companies, and in 1942 to 14 batteries. In 8.42 gave up 7 batteries to Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 607. Ended the war with 9 batteries.

Subordinated to Marine-Artillerie-Regiment 21, 6.40 to Seekdt. Nordhollandand from 11.44 Seekdt. Mittelholland.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 202

Formed 5.40 in Vlissingen with 7 companies. In June 1940 transferred to Domburg/Walcheren. In late 1942 had 11 batteries. In 9.43 gave up 3 batteries to Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 203. 1944 had 9 batteries. Saw heavy combat 1944 on Walcheren and was disbanded 11.44.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 203

Formed 5.40 in Ijmuiden with 3 companies. In June 1940 transferred to St. Malo and Brest, and was renamed Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 262. Was subordinated to Marine-Artillerie-Regiment 21.

Reformed 9.43 in Cadzand from parts of Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 202(3 batteries) and 204 (2 batteries). In 1944 had 6 batteries (1 – 4, 6, and 7). Destroyed while defending Cadzand, and was disbanded 11.44. Individual batteries was in 1944 stationed at:

  • near Breskens (known as Frederik Hendrik battery) with four 76,2mm guns
  • Cadzand with four 150mm guns
  • Knokke with four 280mm guns (building)
  • near Heyst am Zee with four 94mm guns
  • Schütte with four 105mm guns

Subordinated to Seekdt. Südholland.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 204

Formed 5.40 in Ostende with 6 companies, increased to 8 companies in late 1940 (two from Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 240). From late 1942 only had 5 batteries, and in 9.43 gave up its 1st and 5th batteries to Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung203. In 1944 consisted of 2. – 4./MAA204, Batterie Malo Terminus, and Batterie St. Pol. Disbanded 10.44, after heavy losses.

Subordinated to Seekdt. Flandern, and from 1941 Seekdt Pas-de-Calais

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 205

Formed 5.40 for Hoek van Holland with 5 companies. In 1944 had 8 batteries.

Subordinated to Marine-Artillerie-Regiment 21, 6.40 Seekdt. Südhollandand from 11.44 Seekdt. Mittelholland.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 206

Formed 5.40 for Blankenberghe with 10 companies. In July 1940 moved to Royan, France. In 12.40 disbanded, and was divided into:

  • Marine-Artillerie-Gironde (later 284) from Stab, 1-3, 5 and 6/MAA206
  • Marine-Artillerie-Gascogne (later 286) from 4 and 10/MAA206
  • Marine-Artillerie-Vendée (later 282) from 7-9/MAA206

Subordinated to Marine-Artillerie-Regiment 22, and from 7.40 MarinebefehlshaberWestfrankreich.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 240

Formed 5.40 in Lager Altengroden with 4 companies. In June 1940 transferred to Wimereux. In late 1940 gave up its 3. and 4. companies to Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung204. 1944 only had 2 batteries, Batterie Friedrich August – 3 x 30.5cm SKL/50, and Batterie Creche I – 4 x 19.4 cm 486f (captured French battery). Destroyed during the Allied invasion of France and was officially disbanded 9.44.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 242

Formed 5.40 in Lager Altengroden with 3 companies. In June 1940 to Calais, and later to Sangatte/Cap Gris Nez. Contained the following:

  • Batterie Siegfried, later Todt – 4 x 38 cm SK C/34
  • Batterie Grosser Kurfurst – 4 x 28 cm SK L/50
  • Batterie MIII – 4 x 17cm SK L/40 (Heeres-Küsten-Batterie until 1942, reformed as a Marine-Artillerie-Batterie with 15cm C/36torpedo-boat guns)
  • Battery MIV – 3 x 17 cm SK L/40

An interesting aside – the Batteries “Lindemann” – “Grosser Kurfurst”, and “Todt” continued to shell the south coast of England well after the June 6th, 1944 Allied invasion – Hitler ordered that they expend their ammunition against the English coast, and the “Grosser Kurfurst” fired its last shell against the south English coast on the 9th of September of 1944, being captured shortly thereafter by the 3rd Canadian Divison.

Subordinated to Marine-Artillerie-Regiment 24, and from 7.40 Seekdt. Pas de Calais.

Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 244

Formed 5.40 in Lager Altengroden with 3 companies. In June 1940 to Calais,while Stab/MAA244 was renamed Stab/MAA282, and was replaced by a new Stab.1942 had 4 batteries with the following names:

  • Prinz Heinrich
  • Fort Lopin
  • Bastion II
  • Malo Terminus

In 1943 strength was increased to 8 batteries (2-9) by absorbing the following units:

  • Heeres-Küsten-Batterie 217 with 170mm guns
  • Heeres-Küsten-Batterie 227 with 170mm guns
  • Heeres-Küsten-Batterie 334 with 240mm guns

Disbanded 10.44, after the Allied invasion of France.
