The 225.Infanterie-Division was ordered formed in 1935, and was organized and trained between 1936 and1939, being mobilized for the war on August 26th, 1939. During the Campaign in Poland the225.Infanterie-Division was stationed along the German-French border in the region of Aachenin the Westwall fortified zone.
In January 1940, the unit was transfered to Senne-Lager/Paderborn in Germany to refresh and rejuvinate.In March 1940, the unit was transfered to the region of Dortmund-Unna. When the Western Campaign beganin May 1940, the division was transfered west and saw service in Holland and Belgium. In June of 1940,the unit took part in the advance through France up to the capitulation of the Allied forces on June21st.
From the end of the Campaign in France until November of 1941, the 255.Infanterie-Division was stationedin France and Belgium on occupation and coastal security duties along the coast of the English Channel.In December of 1941, the unit was ordered to transfer to the Eastern Front.
