HistoryThe 715.Infanterie-Division was formed on May 8th, 1941 as an occupationunit for service in the west. It was formed from various units of the replacementarmy under the control of Wehrkreis V. After formation, the 715.Infanter-Division served on security and costaldefense operations in the regions of Girondeand Bayonne, and later Aix en Provence-Avignon. In January of 1944, the unit was ordered to transfer to Italy, where it sawservice along in the Nettuno Bridgehead and later took part in fightingat Campoleone, Aprilia, and Cisterna. The 715.Infanterie then took part inthe retreat to the “C-Line”. The division was allowed to rest and relaxnear Forli, while portions of the unit took part in battles along the coastsouth of Ravenna. After fighting in the “Green-Line” at Bendetto Pass, ittook part in defensive fighting in the region of San Giovanni-Vala, in Santerno, and in the Goten positions. Later it foughtat Monte Battaglia and Monte Cece. In February of 1945, the unit was oncemore ordered to transfer, this time to the Eastern Front. It was firstsent to the region of Verona where it rested up before moving on pastPrague to the area of Mahrisch Ostrau. In operations on the Eastern Front, the division served east of Loslau and fought defensive battlesat Godow and Oderberg in the region south of Ratibor.
