History | |
This Wehrkreis had its headquarters in Königsberg, and consisted of the territories of East Prussia, including after 1939, the areas of Memel, and the Zichenau, Sudauten, and Bialystok regions in northern Poland. Late in 1939, this Wehrkreis gave up the area of Elbing in West Prussia when WehrkreisXX was formed. Wehrkreis I ceased to exist in March 1945, when Köningsberg fell to the Soviets. | |
